ASL Interpreting Mishap Prompts New Interpreting Bill in Florida

February 2, 2018—Back in September, a sign language interpreter made nationwide headlines by falsely interpreting Hurricane Irma warnings. This catastrophic event prompted Florida leaders to pass a new bill that requires all American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters to be certified by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or the Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

IU Group Wins Interpretation Contract From University of Miami

July 18, 2016— The University of Miami recently selected Interpreters Unlimited, a full-service language services company to supply interpreting and translation services to the University of Miami’s hospital patients, students, faculty, employees, staff, volunteers, trustees, and officers. The three-year contract went into effect July 11, for Interpreters Unlimited to do business as its Florida sister company, Accessible Communication for the Deaf (ACD). The contract win is expected to enhance the company’s already growing presence in South Florida.

Jackson Health System Selects Local Interpretation Company For State Contract

Accessible Communication for the Deaf (ACD), an IU Group company in Florida was awarded a contract from the Jackson Health System for on-site sign language interpreter services. The contract requires the provider to service JHS with qualified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for spoken English to ASL and ASL to spoken English interpretation appointments for: emergency, trauma and other medical appointments
